The nucleus keeping the John Murray Family of South Africa research going,
consists mainly of two people.
Peter Murray of Riebeeckstad is the editor of the newsletter. He assembles the family news and
general information about the family. Percy Murray of Ruwari, Brackenfell is
the mastermind behind the compilation of our family tree and he is assisted
by Peter Murray of Riebeeckstad.
Peter concentrates on the descendants of John Murray who was born in Cape
Town in 1818, while Percy focusses on the descendants of Henry Murphy
Murray, born in Stellenbosch in 1832. Researching the lines of the rest of
the family, namely Robert William (born Cape Town in 1819), Samuel (born
Cape Town in 1824), Hamilton (born Cape Town in 1826) and Hermanus Johannes
(born Bredasdorp in 1837) is a co-operative effort by the two researchers.
In case there are readers who are descendants of any of the six Murray
brothers and are prepared to assist with further research, this will be
greatly appreciated. Any other help from any "outsider" is of course also
most welcome, but we appeal to Murrays who are closely related and know
their close family, to supply us with any missing or incorrect information.
The longer the delay in recording family data, the more difficult it becomes
for researchers to obtain that information. When someone passes on he or she
carries invaluable knowledge to the grave. And that knowledge could remain
inaccessible to posterity for ever.
